What the colour of your outfit says about your personality

When I first started researching the idea of opening a boutique store, I came across lots of interesting articles and the one about colour psychology really stood out for me.

We all know that first impressions are really important but did you know the colours you choose for your outfit have a tendency to reveal your personality. Let me share with you what some common colours speak to those around you. I must admit I took a second look at my closet and made some changes after reading about the power of colours!

Black

Black outfits tend to be a staple for many as it has the ability to provide a sliming effect. A predominately black outfit conveys authority, seriousness and professionalism. This is why it is the colour of choice for those in leadership roles to help reinforce authority. Sometimes those in a black outfit may come across intimidating and unapproachable.

Red

Red is such a bright, intense and fun colour. This colour is interesting in a way, as on one hand it reflects a passionate, energetic and an easily excitable individual. However on the other hand it can send messages aggression, stress and danger which explains why it is the chosen colour for fire engines and stop signs.

Yellow

This is such a happy colour generally pulled out during sunny days. This colour speaks laughter, fun, optimism and youthfulness. In a way it attracts attention just like yellow street lines, caution signs and for my twin boys the yellow diggers all over town! Some clothing gurus suggest this may not be a great colour in a serious corporate setting as it could suggest aloofness and immaturity.

White

Who doesn’t love a great white outfit. If I could wear white without spilling something on it within minutes it would be something I would gravitate towards. This colour symbolizes purity, freedom, optimism & simplicity and often chosen when people are starting over or changing directions in life. It does suggest that the individual is neat, organized and possibly a perfectionist.

Blue

A nice blue outfit generally conveys an approachable, honest, trustworthy, reliable and grounded individual. Like the ocean and blue skies, the colour has the ability to invoke a sense of calmness and tranquility. Great colour choice if you are resolving conflicts or dealing with sensitive situations.

Hope this did not change your favourite colour but gave you some food for thought.
